Trucks – australianearthmoving http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au Earthmoving, Machinery, Classifieds Thu, 21 Feb 2019 23:10:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.1 Two latest Komatsu ADTs feature advanced transmission system powered by low-emission Tier 4 engines http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7758 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7758#respond Mon, 02 Jul 2018 13:17:15 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7758 Australian Earthmoving News:

Komatsu has released two new

s, the 28-tonne capacity HM300-5 and 40-tonne capacity HM400-5, both powered by low-emission Tier 4 Final engines and featuring Komatsu’s advanced truck transmission system.

The 28 tonne capacity HM300-5 is powered by Komatsu’s SAA6D125E-7 engine rated at 242 kW net, while the 40 tonne HM400-5 is powered by the SAA6D140E-7 rated at 348 kW net.

Both engines are US EPA Tier 4 Final emissions certified, cutting both nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM) emissions by 90% compared with their Tier 3 equivalents, while delivering up to 14% lower fuel consumption compared with previous models.

These engines incorporate an advanced electronic control system that performs high-speed processing of all signals from sensors installed in the vehicle, providing total control of equipment in all conditions of use.

Engine condition information is displayed via an on-board network to the monitor inside the cab, providing all necessary operating data to the operator.

Additionally, this data can be accessed and managed via the KOMTRAX telematics remote monitoring system (supplied as standard on all Komatsu construction and utility machines), ensuring owners and fleet managers stay well on top of all maintenance requirements.

According to Richard Feehely, Komatsu Australia’s National Business Manager, Quarries, Komatsu’s new Tier 4 engines monitor and transmit far more detailed data about engine conditions and operation, giving unmatched visibility into the health of equipment – and any potential issues.

“And through our in-house development and production of engines, electronics, and hydraulic components all designed to work with each other, Komatsu has achieved major advances in technology, providing high levels of performance and efficiency across all applications,” he said.

“Because of this integrated design approach, we have been able to achieve further reductions in fuel consumption with these new trucks,” Richard said.

“These include the use of variable displacement piston pumps that use engine power only as needed to eliminate unnecessary PTO inefficiencies, along with design improvements to the drive axles and transmission systems that reduce parasitic driveline losses.”

Both new trucks feature Komatsu’s advanced truck transmission system, including its electronically controlled K-ATOMICS countershaft transmission which is also used on large mining trucks, and the Komatsu Traction Control System (KTCS).

“Both these features are unique to Komatsu articulated dump trucks and, combined with our hydraulically controlled wet multiple-disc brakes and retarder system, provide unrivalled traction, braking power and safety in all types of operation,” Richard said.

K-ATOMICS incorporates an electronic clutch modulation system that ensures proper clutch pressure when the clutch is engaged.

“This total control system controls both the engine and the transmission by monitoring the vehicle conditions, ensuring smooth shifts with minimal shock and thus maximises powertrain life,” he said.

“KTCS, which we have derived from our extensive experience in traction control systems in dozers and rigid dump trucks, was developed by Komatsu to ensure maximum machine performance in soft and slippery ground conditions.

“This system, which is automatically activated and deactivated, monitors wheel speeds on the front and middle axles, and if it detects wheel slip, will automatically engage the inter-axle lock to improve machine performance.

“If the machine continues to detect wheel slip, it will brake the wheel that slip was detected on, continually monitoring wheel speeds and engaging the brakes as necessary,” he said.

Both trucks also incorporate Komatsu’s exclusive hydraulic braking and retarder system, which ensures complete control even when doing downhill fully loaded.

“Large-capacity, continuously cooled, wet-multiple disc brakes, which have been proven on other Komatsu rigid dump trucks, also function as a highly responsive retarder, giving the operator full control when travelling downhill,” said Richard.

Retarder absorbing capacity (continuous descent) is 392 kW on the HM300-5 and 510 kW on the HM500-5.

They also both come as standard with a payload meter (PLM), which displays payload tonnage as the truck is loaded. This information is visible to the operator, and is also transmitted to owners and fleet management via KOMTRAX.

Both trucks feature large ergonomically designed ROPS/FOPS cabs with air suspension seats and hydro-pneumatic front axle suspension, while the centrally located operator seat and short-bonnet design ensures excellent visibility of the working area. A rear-view camera and in-cab monitor are also provided as standard.

Maintenance requirements have been made easier on the two trucks through features such as ground-level fuel filter access, power-tiltable cab, reversible engine cooling fan, battery disconnect switch and an electric fuel priming pump.

“Since we introduced our HM400-3M0 in Australia in 2014, it has proven itself as a highly productive, efficient and safe articulated hauler across a wide range of applications,” said Richard.

“Now with our launch of these latest low-emission versions of the HM300-5 and HM400-5 trucks, customers can take advantage of the benefits of the latest Komatsu technology for their haulage operations.”

Brief specs of the two trucks are as follows:

HM300-5:Payload capacity, 28 tonnes; body capacity, 17.1 cu m; engine, Komatsu SAA6D140E-7 engine EPA Tier 4 Final emissions certified, rated at 242 kW net at 2000 rpm; transmission, automatic countershaft with lockup torque converter, 6F/2R speeds; maximum speed, 58.6 km/h; tyres, 23.5 R25; loading height, 2830 mm; width, 2900 mm; overall length, 10,275 mm.

HM400-5:Payload capacity, 40 tonnes; body capacity, 24 cu m; engine, Komatsu SAA6D125E-7 engine EPA Tier 4 Final emissions certified, rated at 348 kW net at 2000 rpm; transmission, automatic countershaft with lockup torque converter, 6F/2R speeds; maximum speed, 55.9 km/h; tyres, 29.5 R25; loading height, 3164  mm; width, 3450 mm; overall length, 11,105 mm.

VOLVO LAUNCHES OWN RANGE OF RIGID HAULERS http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7021 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7021#respond Fri, 19 Jan 2018 04:06:26 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7021 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

Volvo CE is set to enter the rigid hauler market with a complete Volvo-branded range. Using the expertise of its Motherwell facility in Scotland, the range consists of four machines, starting at the 45-ton R45D and extending up to the flagship 100-ton R100E.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has announced that it will enter the rigid hauler market with its own Volvo brand of rigid haulers in the second quarter of 2018. The development of the new four-model range has relied heavily on the longstanding rigid hauler expertise of Volvo CE’s subsidiary Terex Trucks, combined with the technological strength of the Volvo Group. The range, which will initially be launched in less regulated markets, consists of the 45-ton R45D, 60-ton R60D, 72-ton R70D and the flagship 100-ton R100E.

The E-Series R100E is a completely new Volvo CE 100-ton (95-tonne) rigid hauler that combines a wealth of market and customer knowledge with proven components, new technologies and a striking new design – all providing a cost-effective and productive solution to fulfil the needs of today’s mining and quarrying customers.

IN-DEPTH ENGINEERING REVIEW

Based on the existing and well-proven Terex Trucks TR-Series, development of the D-Series R45D, R60D and R70D Volvo rigid haulers follows an in-depth engineering review, ensuring that the machines meet the standards expected from Volvo products in their target markets and segments. Improvements include greater visibility and safety systems, along with Volvo technical support and branding.

As a result of the launch of the Volvo-branded rigid haulers, production of Terex Trucks rigid haulers will, over time, cease.

“Our purchase of Terex Trucks in 2014 was a strategic decision that allowed Volvo to offer customers a rigid hauler option,” says Thomas Bitter, Senior Vice President of the Marketing and Product Portfolio (MaPP) function at Volvo CE. “Since then, we’ve been working to design a completely new rigid hauler that builds on Terex Trucks’ 84-year heritage, while also incorporating Volvo CE’s industry-leading technology and core values of quality, safety and environmental care. Today we move to the next stage, and the new Volvo machines, especially the E-Series R100E, are the outcome of this work. We’re confident that they will impress customers working in the mining and quarrying segments.”

NEW MACHINES IN FOCUS

The all-new flagship R100E has been designed to meet customer demands for a rigid hauler that delivers high performance and productivity, low total cost of ownership, easy serviceability and good operator comfort. With its high capacity and hauling speeds, new V-shaped body, efficient hydraulics, intelligent monitoring systems and operator environment, the R100E will help customers move more material in less time.

“Terex Trucks’ rigid haulers are known for performing well in tough conditions, while also being easy to maintain and delivering low cost of ownership,” says Paul Douglas, Volvo CE’s Vice President of Rigid Haulers and Terex Trucks. “Our proven design has provided a strong DNA on which to help develop Volvo CE’s innovative entry into this product line. The new E-Series R100E is a completely new machine that delivers stability, a long service life, high profitability, durability and comfort. And moreover, it’s quick and simple to operate and maintain.”

A BRIGHT FUTURE

The new Volvo-branded rigid haulers will be manufactured at the rebranded Volvo Motherwell production facility in Scotland and sold exclusively through the Volvo dealer network.

Kobelco: Westco Trucks’ earthmoving equipment partner http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5492 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5492#respond Wed, 18 Nov 2015 22:31:12 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5492 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

When Queensland truck dealership Westco Trucks realised most of their customers also run earthmoving equipment, they decided to extend their sales and service offering in partnership with Kobelco.

Westco Trucks Kobelco franchise consists of four branches in the large central and north Queensland regions. Westco Trucks’ General Manager for North Queensland, Bernie Trevallion, says that this partnership fills a real need for Westco’s customers.

“In the day-to-day dealings with our trucking customers we found that the vast majority of them were also operating earthmoving machinery. This gave us a good opportunity to service our customers in another way so we felt the timing was right to start dealing in earthmoving equipment as well.

“When we looked at the manufacturers in the market we looked for a brand that had a reputation for high-quality and was a business that was big enough to be well supported on the service side but still be able to build a good business relationship with us. We would not partner with anything less than a first-class brand. Kobelco ticks all those boxes,” Bernie says.

Bernie highlighted the market leading fuel-efficiency, reliability and resilience of Kobelco machines as key reasons that Westco opted to partner with them.

“Our customers come from every http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/anti-fungal/ imaginable part of the industry, from road building and residential development through to landscaping. Most are owner operators who are time poor so to be able to bring their business asset needs together in one spot saves them time and in many cases money.”

Kobelco General Manager – Sales and Service, Doug McQuinn, says that it was an easy decision to partner with Westco Trucks.

“When it came time to expand the Kobelco dealer network our focus was on partnering with a reputable dealer that shares our values of exceptional customer service and passion for our industry,” Doug said.

The entire range of Kobelco machines will be available through the dealership, from the nimble one tonne SK008 through to the powerful 50-tonne SK500LC-9.

Westco Trucks is strongly supported with service technicians who specialise in earthmoving equipment in each branch in the network. Westco is also working closely with Kobelco to keep their staff trained and updated with the latest technology in the field.

Westco is a family owned business that has been in operation for more than 70 years. As part of the Great Western Corporation, it is an established business servicing rural Queensland and northern New South Wales. Westco has the capacity for both sales and service.

CLEAN ROADS FOR DARLING SQUARE CONSTRUCTION SITE http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4799 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4799#respond Thu, 28 May 2015 23:11:07 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4799 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

When Sydney’s Darling Square project opens in December 2016, this latest city landmark will include a new commercial and residential urban village. The first stage of the $2.5 billion redevelopment of Sydney’s Darling Harbour will add seven towers housing 1400 apartments.

Constant movement of construction vehicles on and off the site means that adjacent busy vehicle carriageways had to be kept clear of muddy soil being deposited on the road surface. Contractors, Christie Civil Pty Ltd is using a compact water cart of 4,500 litres capacity to clean the roads twice daily.

Christie Civil’s site engineer, Royce Choe said “We needed a compact watercart that was small enough to take up minimum space on the site and could be operated by any of our site workers holding a standard car licence.

“Manoeuvrability is important for us. There is not a lot of space to move, as well as limited space available to park equipment while not in use. We also had to ensure the watercart is fully http://humanrightsfilmnetwork.org/celexa maintained with all documentation and reports that meet the requirements of the site safety regulators”, Royce said.

The Watercart was provided by TWS Hire. “Christie Civil is typical of our construction customers who need the latest equipment that’s reliable, fully equipped for the task and will meet the most stringent requirements of site inspections’’ said TWS Hire’s general manager, Bill Bastian.

“Rather than continually upgrade older trucks, our policy is to regularly add new equipment that will more than satisfy the needs of our customers. We’re offering the latest generation equipment that is totally site compliant.

“Increasingly, suppliers like ourselves are required to submit equipment for pre-hire inspections where we have to produce mechanical and operability certificates issued by a registered mechanic. Under these circumstances it makes sense to ensure all our vehicles have been maintained diligently in top condition”, he said. Further details at www.watercartspecialists.com.au .

INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT BRINGS NEW IDEAS TO CIVENEX http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4251 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4251#respond Thu, 12 Feb 2015 00:23:40 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4251 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

As CIVENEX gears up for its 60th anniversary, organisers of the state’s premier infrastructure expo have announced a range of new initiatives to ensuring its reputation as the industry’s ‘must-attend’ event.

John Roydhouse, CEO of the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia – NSW Division (IPWEA) which runs Civenex, says adapting to the market has been key to the event’s success.

“As a not-for-profit organisation our goal is to deliver an event that is valuable to the industry. That means constantly evolving to meet changing needs of exhibitors and visitors,” he says.

“In an age when information is instantly available online, the expo remains an important opportunity for personal connection between those in the industry but we need to keep changing what we do to ensure it’s relevant and useful.

“The online space has revolutionised the way brands and customers connect but nothing can take the place of a personal interaction,” John says.

One of the biggest changes for 2015 will be the introduction of family friendly hours to make it easier for visitors to take advantage of the expo.

“Past delegates have told us that time is a big factor in whether or not they attend the event. It can be hard for people to get away during work hours, and they have other responsibilities after work. So we’re extending the opening hours and introducing family activities including a l Australian music icon performing live so people can come along after work to network, gather information and do deals – and also enjoy time with their families,” John says.

“The extended hours will also be better for people who travel to the event. We get visitors http://humanrightsfilmnetwork.org/viagra from across the state, interstate and even international industry stakeholders and we want to make sure they’re able to make the most of Civenex.”

The event will also focus on professional development opportunities.

“Visitors come to Civenex to see the latest offers and learn something new. We’ve developed a program of educational seminars that sit within our theme ‘Learn to Earn’, because ultimately, profitability is what drives the industry.”

Among the seminars will be a plant and vehicle management session and ‘Dial Before You Dig’ session on best practice guidelines and asset protection.

Unlike any other expo in New South Wales, Civenex is hosted by the IPWEA so any profits earned are invested directly back into the industry.

“The IPWEA is recognised as the leading professional association that effectively informs, connects, represents and leads public works professionals for NSW. The association was established to further the public works sector in NSW through research into process improvement and to work with government at all levels to protect the interests of public service” John says.

“Civenex’s 60th anniversary is celebrating more than longevity of the event. It’s about 60 years of innovation, networking and progressive thinking; all the attributes that make our industry world-class.”

Organisers expect visitor numbers to be high for the anniversary event, with up to 5000 visitors anticipated. Sites are still available for exhibitors.

Civenex 2015

Event Date:                 20 and 21 May 2015 (60th anniversary)

The Slattery Auctions sale venue in Stafford has become one of the major truck and machinery auction houses in Queensland and this month sees another monster Truck and Machinery Auction on 10th Feb.

Keith Flynn who heads up the Queensland operation thinks the source of the assets is key to the strength of the Slattery business “Our assets come mainly from banking, finance and insolvency clients rather than the owner or insurance companies. This ensures that our assets are of a higher quality than those found at other auctioneers. The sale on the 10th February features a huge number of incredibly high quality assets in fabulous condition such as a 2012 Kenworth K200 in outstanding condition and a large number of late model trailers of a quality we rarely see”.

Iveco and FPT Industrial to feature at Dakar 2015 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4003 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4003#respond Fri, 05 Dec 2014 03:12:35 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=4003 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

Together again, ready to fight for a place on the podium at the 2015 Dakar: Iveco and FPT Industrial will once again feature at the world’s biggest rally—the Dakar—as official sponsors of Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco. The news was announced today at a press conference held at CNH Industrial Village in Turin, Italy. International press attended the event where the new Team was presented.

The morning’s proceedings saw speeches by Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, Riccardo Buratti, Engines Engineering Director at FPT Industrial, and Claudio Pastoris, CEO of Sparco, a global supplier of racing equipment. Speaking on behalf of PETRONAS were Giuseppe D’Arrigo, Regional Head of Europe, and Andrea Dolfi, Global OEM Liaison & Motorsport Manager, Research & Technology. Gerard De Rooy—captain of Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco—also took the floor to present the other members of the Team and outline the main characteristics and challenges of the 2015 race.

In line with their adventurous identities, the two CNH Industrial brands will provide vehicles, parts and engines for the Netherlands-based Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco at the next Dakar rally.

Pierre Lahutte, Iveco Brand President, commented “2015 represents an important milestone for Iveco. It is the year that begins with the “International Van of the Year 2015” title awarded to our Daily by a jury panel of 23 leading journalists from major international commercial vehicle publications. It is also the year in which we celebrate our brand’s 40th anniversary. There would be no better way to celebrate these successes and commence the new year than to take the first place position on the Dakar podium”.

The 37th edition of the Dakar—the seventh to take place on South American soil—will start in Buenos Aires, Argentina on 4 January and will finish in the same city on 17 January, after 13 stages following a ring-shaped route. The 414 vehicles on the starting line will have to cover more than 9,000 km of roads, tracks and dunes, through Argentina, Chile and Bolivia.

Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco

After taking second place in the 2014 edition of the rally, the Netherlands’ Gerard De Rooy—on board a sleeper-cab version of the Iveco Powerstar—will once again lead the Team. At 34 years old and having won the Dakar in 2012, the Dutchman returns to the race with more determination and enthusiasm than ever, ready to face the extreme challenges that the rally presents each year.

Behind the wheel of a second Powerstar will be fellow Dutchman Hans Stacey, winner of the Lisbon- Dakar in 2007 and a member of Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco since 2011. The third vehicle, a day-cab Trakker Evolution 3, will be under the control of Spanish driver Pep Vila, a rally veteran and a Team fixture at the Dakar.

Iveco’s race vehicles: strength, reliability and performance even over the toughest terrain

The Dutch team will use three Iveco vehicles at the 2015 Dakar: two Powerstars (specifically, a Strator prototype version—built in the Netherlands with an Iveco chassis, driveline and cab inspired by the Powerstar, manufactured and marketed by Iveco Australia) and a Trakker 4×4, manufactured in Spain. In addition to the rally trucks, six support and assistance Trakkers will complete the Team PETRONAS De Rooy Iveco line-up: one 8x8s, four 6x6s and one 4×4.

The Iveco Trakker is an off-road quarry-site vehicle, with a new cab designed to improve driving and on-board comfort, elements which today are recognised as essential for the productivity and safety of a vehicle. This vehicle is capable of operating on difficult, bumpy terrain, like the surfaces the drivers will need to navigate on in South America, and relies on FPT Industrial’s Cursor engines, which ensure power and reliability. The defining characteristic of the vehicle is its sturdiness: each individual component, starting from the high-yield steel chassis, guarantees long lasting performance.

The Trakker represents a “Best in Class” not only for its day-to-day use, but also in more challenging environments, having been designed to work in all weather conditions and on all types of terrain, from dirt roads to extreme off-road trails, ensuring maximum comfort, safety and output.

The vehicles are fitted with three rally seats with seat belts and a roll-over protection bar. The vehicles feature ZF gearboxes providing both ergonomics and performance. These include the Ecosplit 9- and 16-speed manual gearboxes, both equipped with a “servo-shift” servo-assist system which offers a more comfortable and safer driving experience, and the Eurotronic 12- and 16-speed automatic gearboxes, with gear selector built into the steering column switch, which helps to improve driver comfort.

The Dakar will represent an important occasion for Iveco to test the performance of the products in action: each vehicle will face huge challenges in extreme conditions, thus providing an opportunity to test the vehicles’ reliability and performance.

All Iveco vehicles participating in the 2015 Dakar are equipped with FPT Industrial Cursor 13 engines which generate up to 900 horsepower. Thanks to continuous research and development activities, the in-line six-cylinder Cursor 13 adopts the most advanced technologies available, such as latest generation Common Rail HD injection system, guaranteeing pressures up to 2,200 bar. These engines provide high power, fast load response and high power density and ensure maximum robustness and reliability, and low operating costs. To ensure such a high level of reliability, FPT Industrial puts its powertrains through several thousand hours of rigorous testing and, above all, tests them in extremely challenging sporting competitions such as the Dakar.

The 2015 Dakar

The race will take place in three major South American countries from 4 to 17 January: Argentina, Chile and Bolivia. The route forms a ring, starting in Buenos Aires in Argentina, reaching Iquique in Chile, and returning once again to the Argentinian capital.

Argentina will therefore host both the start and end of the race, as well as a further six stages. The rest of the race will take place in Chile, plus one stage in Bolivia, as the 9,000 km route weaves its way through a landscape of desert and rocks.

Like last year, there will be different routes for cars, trucks, bikes and quads. In particular, the truck route will be nearly 1,000 km shorter to avoid having heavy vehicles passing through Bolivia’s salt flats. This decision also stemmed from a desire to respect and protect the environment hosting this spectacular and strenuous race. A total of 414 vehicles have registered for the race this year: 164 bikes, 138 cars, 48 quads and 64 trucks, with 665 competitors representing 53 different countries.
