Earthmoving Projects – australianearthmoving http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au Earthmoving, Machinery, Classifieds Thu, 21 Feb 2019 23:10:59 +0000 en-US hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=5.1 Hammer helps break new ground http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7671 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7671#respond Wed, 30 May 2018 23:16:39 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7671 Australian Earthmoving News:

A few months back, a South-East Queensland based plumbing service added a Cat H35E Hydraulic Hammer to its range of equipment, and business has never been better.

All in One Plumbing Services owner, , said the H35E is a huge step up from hand-held jackhammers, and saves him plenty of time and money.

“It allows us to get through concrete paths and slabs so much quicker – sometimes reducing what used to be a four-day job down to just a few hours,” Niebling said.

“Customers are always surprised at how fast we can get the job done to access the plumbing, then we do what we need to do and move onto the next job ahead of time.”

The secret behind the H35E Hammer’s success is its impact frequency, with high beats per minute (BPM) that get the job done faster. This also means the Hammer is attached to the machine for less time, therefore reducing its impact on the machine itself.

Tom Whetton, Hastings Deering Sales Representative – New & Used Equipment, said Niebling’s existing Cat excavator was the ideal match for the hammer.

“Anthony bought his Cat 301.7D CR Excavator from us a few years back and then a few months ago he gave me a call asking for the H35E Hammer – he knew what he wanted and we sourced it for him quickly,” said Whetton.

“This Cat hammer is made for this Cat machine, so it maximises performance and increases what Anthony can offer to his customers.”

As well as expanding the amount of plumbing work for the company, the combination of the Cat excavator and Cat hammer has also opened up other areas of work.

“When customers see we’ve got the excavator they use us for other jobs on the site too, and we find that carpenters are recommending us to customers because of the equipment we’ve got,” Niebling said.

“We recently removed a 5,000 gallon concrete water tank – which is something we couldn’t have done previously – and the hammer got through that in no time.”

On top of sales for new machines and attachments, Hastings Deering places a strong emphasis on providing ongoing support to all its customers.

“We sell a premium product that has to be backed up – it’s our after-sales support that plays a big role in future sales,” said Whetton.

As well as being delighted with the performance of his new H35E Hammer, Niebling is also very happy with his 301.7D CR Excavator.

“Whether it’s in a confined space or in an open field, it digs and performs like a 5-tonne excavator,” Niebling said.

“I tried all the other brands, but in the end I only wanted a Cat.”

LIUGONG NEXT GENERATION SKID STEERS – THE SOLUTION FOR THE PROFESSIONAL LANDSCAPER http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7372 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7372#respond Wed, 04 Apr 2018 22:10:00 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7372 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

The curved corners on their B Series Skid Steers provide a wider, less obstructed view of the worksite and a solid “corner to corner” view of the bucket, blade, fork or other attachment being used. Intelligent use of complex shapes adds another important benefit – reduced noise levels inside the cab. By using curves to increase the stiffness of the cab, surface transmission of sound energy is significantly reduced. This is another way LiuGong is engineering customer value into every machine they build from the very start of the design process.

Better manoeuverability and performance.

Precision operation of a skid steer starts with better weight distribution. The new B Series Skid Steers gets it right with better balance, stability and lift control. The narrow stance and panoramic view combine for superior handling and control in tight quarters between buildings, walls and inside trailers. The machines lift to a dump clearance height of up to 2425mm and with a lift speed of 4.1 seconds, dump at 2.4 seconds and float down of 2.2 seconds, they are quick all around.

Tougher structural components.

All LiuGong machines are designed, built and tested for extreme-duty applications. The B Series Skid Steers are no exception. The new integrated frame provides a solid, rigid foundation for long, hard and productive days. The beefy, box section loader arms match the strength and durability of the frame, make the B Series Skid Steers long lasting and reliable machines for all applications – from high-cycle construction and mining applications to farms, nurseries and ports. The B Series Skid Steers don’t just look better – they last longer. Many thousands of hours of real-world testing were spent on the development of the new skid-steer, and the result is machines that not only please our customers, but machines that also live up to the strict quality standards that LiuGong mandates.

It’s all under control.

The machines features double-lever pilot control for sure, simple, effortless operation. The hydrostatic transmission system provides infinite speed control so operators can inch through critical areas with no extra space, but still travel quickly over large areas. Spring applied, hydraulic release brakes allow the operator to position the machine exactly where needed, and hold it there for pin point accuracy on precision jobs. They also have hydraulic self-levelling, especially useful for pallet fork applications. The universal LiuGong quick-coupling system makes for fast, easy changes with the complete line of LiuGong attachments, plus the B Series can pick up existing industry standard attachments, from any suppliers that the customer may already own.

Spacious, productive operator station.

These machines start with the operator – and stay there. The cabins are extra-large and uncluttered – with plenty of leg, elbow and headroom. Controls are intuitive and ergonomically placed for simple, effortless, fingertip control. The large, curved windows and well-placed mirrors eliminate much of the operator twisting and turning you find with other machines. The B Series Skid Steers features a full suspension seat that is fully adjustable. The ROPS & FOPS certified structural cabin design greatly reduces both vibration and sound levels – for better operator comfort and superior communication between operator and other personnel around the worksite.

Easy Access for Efficient Maintenance

The large, swing-open tailgate provides exceptional access for routine maintenance points in all B Series Skid Steers. There are no radiators to move, lift arms to raise or lift-arm support devices to install.

Plenty of options.

The B Series Skid Steers comes standard with a range of options to help customers meet their job requirements and performance needs. The list includes high-flow hydraulics, heater and air conditioning, enclosed ROPS/FOPS Cab, solid tires and tire chains, plus many more.

Fleet-Footed Toyota Huski Keeps Victorian Contractor Productive http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7177 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7177#respond Sun, 11 Feb 2018 20:13:24 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7177 Fleet-Footed Toyota Huski Keeps Victorian Contractor Productive

A progressive Victorian earthworks contractor has praised the fleet-footedness of Toyota Huski skid-steer loaders, after using them exclusively for six years.

Bill Taylor of L&K Earthworks now has his fourth Huski, a 650kg operating load Toyota 5SDK8 model.

“They’re light on their feet, don’t get stuck in the mud and have good ground clearance,” Mr Taylor said.

“As well as that, they’re tough, reliable, good value for money and efficient. Having a Toyota engine helps minimise the cost-per-hour and hence gives maximum return on investment.”

Mr Taylor has added to the versatility and site accessibility of his loader in damp conditions by fitting a set of Bearcat/Camso OTT tracks.

“With recent rains, I would not have been able to access half of my jobs in the last month without the tracks,” he said.

The rationale for adding the rubber tracks – which can be fitted in less than 45 minutes by experienced operators – was versatility versus the cost of another machine.

“It was a case of spending $6000 on the tracks or $90,000 on another machine,” Bill Taylor said.

Toyota Material Handling’s Melbourne branch supplied Mr Taylor’s loader and services it every 250 hours, via a mobile service unit based in Sunbury.

Mr Taylor has been in the earthmoving industry for 14 years and his work ranges as far afield as Pakenham, Kilmore and Torquay from his base in Bacchus Marsh.

His work includes house site and driveway preparation, levelling nature strips on new housing estates, dirt and rock removal, back-filling and rubbish removal.

Toyota Huski area sales manager Thomas Machar said Mr Taylor was achieving high utilisation of 1000 hours a year from his Huski.

“Bill’s jobs on new housing estates necessitates operating on a variety of ground conditions,” he said.

“He could be loading his truck on the road or crossover, running across gravel and rock, or working in dirt clay and mud. The Huski is perfect for this application.”

“Adding the OTT tracks allows Bill to continue to work in this application through the wetter months of the year, without the issues and costs of operating a track loader in an application that is better suited to a skid steer loader.”

“Most operators will only utilise their tracks during the wettest three or four months of the year. This results in the tracks lasting for years and low running costs for most of the year when operating on tyres.”

The popular Toyota 5SDK8 has been tested in Australia and proven nationally.

It has a reliable and powerful 2.5-litre Toyota diesel engine delivering 52 horsepower (39kW) and 160Nm and a rated operating capacity of 650kg.

Toyota Material Handling offers a comprehensive range of Huski skid-steer loaders, from the compact 4SDK4 to the powerful 5SDK11. ]]> http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?feed=rss2&p=7177 0 Great feedback from AusRAIL Plus 2017: The A 922 Rail Litronic railroader from Liebherr attracted plenty of interest http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7137 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7137#respond Thu, 08 Feb 2018 21:02:59 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=7137 Great feedback from AusRAIL Plus 2017:

The A 922 Rail Litronic railroader from Liebherr attracted plenty of interest

 • Operating weight 19.9 to 22.8 tonnes
 • Can be used either on the road or on railway tracks
 • Economical, powerful drive

Brisbane (Australia), December 2017 – In November, Liebherr exhibited at AusRAIL Plus, the southern hemisphere’s largest rail conference and exhibition, at the Brisbane Convention Centre. The A 922 Rail Litronic attracted plenty of interest from local and international visitors to the event. The A 922 Rail Litronic wheeled excavator has an operating weight of 19.9-22.8 tonnes and can be used as a railroader: either on the road or on railway tracks. The rail travel drive is mounted on either side of the undercarriage. During re-railing, the rail travel drive brings the tyres to rail level, so that the inner wheels of the dual tyres assume the travel drive on rail.

The A 922 Rail can be equipped with a rail guide for regular-width, and wide tracks or friction wheel rail guide for narrow tracks, depending on operating requirements. It sets the standard in its class for fuel efficiency and reliability.

Powerful Liebherr drive with easy maintenance

The A 922 Rail Litronic is powered by the 110 kW / 150 HP Liebherr diesel engine D834 that complies with exhaust emissions stage IIIB. The exhaust gas treatment is effected by a diesel oxidation catalyst, while a particulate filter module can also be used if required.

The diesel engine drives a double hydraulic pump with a rated output of 2 x 215 litres per minute. Each pump can be controlled separately, for troublefree operation of tool attachments with an intensive power requirement, such as mulchers, trench cutting machines or hydraulic pile drivers. While one pump supplies power to the tool attachment, the other permits the railroader’s travel and working movements to be supplied separately. The A 922 Rail also impresses with its high lift capacities.

Liebherr HVI hydraulic oil is used as standard on the A 922 Rail, and is capable of an operating life of more than 6,000 hours. Instead of fixed oil-change intervals, these are determined by the results of an oil analysis carried out every thousand hours of operation or once a year. To prolong the lifetime of the hydraulic oil, and as a reliable service indicator, for the return filter a magnetic rod is installed in the hydraulic oil tank as a standard item, and can be easily removed and cleaned when necessary.

The large engine cover on the A 922 Rail opens to expose the entire right-hand side of the machine, providing fast, convenient access to all servicing points. Day-to-day maintenance can be carried out from ground level; reducing service time and providing a safer workspace. To clean the generously sized radiator, the powerful fan can simply be swung out forwards.

Comfortable double operator’s cab

Operator performance is impacted by comfort and usability, the clear layout and comfort of the operator’s cab of the A 922 Rail offers sufficient space for driver and co- driver. The windscreen can be slid up as a complete unit, and the touch screen display is intuitive to operate. The excavator also has proportional controls on both sides of the joysticks for operating all auxiliary hydraulic circuits. Standard features include an air- sprung, heated driver’s seat with the adjustable height and angle seat base, lumbar support, headrest, lap belt and ergonomically laid out control consoles that move with the seat. The high-quality standard equipment also includes automatic air-conditioning as well as speed control for enhanced comfort for longer road and rail journeys.

Occupational safety is extremely important in track construction. Among the standard safety equipment on the A 922 Rail are braked track wheels and pipe-burst protection for the lifting, luffing and stick cylinders. There are also standard cameras to monitor the areas to the side and rear of the machine with a separate display unit in the cab. The as-standard fully automatic central lubricating system avoids loss of working time due to the need to grease various points manually.

Higher productivity thanks to LIKUFIX

Besides a competent and experienced team, the use of efficient and versatile construction machines and the corresponding tool attachments is the key prerequisite for economical and timely realisation of ambitious projects. The A 922 Rail can be equipped with the optional fully automatic LIKUFIX quick coupler system for hydraulic tool attachments. These can be detached and picked up quickly and safely without the operator having to leave the cab. The deployment options of a hydraulic excavator and machine productivity can thus be increased by up to 30 %. The second proximity

switch for LIKUFIX showcased at Bauma 2016, offers even greater safety when using tool attachments on the construction site.

Huge variety of attachments

A 3.4 m long luffing boom or a 3.6 m boom that can be repositioned laterally, are available as options. There are also dipper arms 1.85 m, 2.05 m, 2.25 m or 2.65 m long that have been specially designed for work below overhead wires.

Two different counterweights can be selected for the railroader. The benefit of the heavy counterweight is the up to 15 % higher lift capacity on the equipment side with only a slightly bigger swing radius.

For the Australian market, the A 922 Rail Litronic is equipped with a directional light on the undercarriage. If required, powerful LED lighting is available for the machine. As well as providing ample illumination, it is noted for its long life and low current consumption. With the corresponding attachments, the railroader can be approved according to DIN EN 15746.

DEMOLISH AND REBUILD WITH THE MB DRUM CUTTER http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6862 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6862#respond Thu, 02 Nov 2017 21:21:30 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6862 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

This is a story of demolition. And of construction. Or, as in the best fairy tales, we might say, once upon a time in Mexico City there was a factory which, after closing down, was due to be demolished to make room for a new shopping mall.

So there was the old and the new and, in the middle, an MB Crusher MB-R800 drum cutter, operated by Pilotec SA de CV, the Mexican company commissioned to do the construction works.

The site

First of all a part of the old factory was demolished. Then the basement of the new building was excavated and diaphragm walls (or underground bulkheads) were built, i.e. walls made of reinforced concrete that prevent the earth next to the excavated area from collapsing. Real effective supports for the perimeter structures. These are usually used to protect areas excavated to accommodate underground floors (garage, car parks, etc.), or as a support of bridge foundations or on the building sites for jetties and docks, as well as for the construction of deep wells.

The MB Crusher drum cutter at work

After completing the diaphragm walls, Pilotec was left with a problem: how to eliminate all the excess material left on the wall, inert material that made it shapeless and occupied space. And of course, as everyone knows, on a construction site gaining even an extra centimetre means less expenditure and less work.

At this point the MB-R800 drum cutter came into play. Mounted on a 20 ton Cat excavator, the drum cutter removed the excess part of the wall in as little as two weeks. So it was not necessary to construct a revetment wall, as is often the case in such worksites. No further costs were incurred and the construction of the new shopping mall was completed within the delivery data requested by the Client.

An excavator-friendly drum cutter

The MB Crusher drum cutter enabled Pilotec SA to save time and money. But it also brought great advantages in terms of productivity, safety in the workplace and maintenance time. MB drum cutters are equipped with an integrated safety system which triggers if the excavator settings are not properly regulated. And that’s not all. The two drums can be disassembled directly on-site, without the drum cutter having to be taken to a specialised workshop. Moreover, their unique design allows them to work underwater as well.

The excavator is thankful too when it works with an MB drum cutter. That’s right, because the drum cutter uses an AAA+ type hydraulic system with an integrated Power Booster, which reduces the demand for hydraulic power from the work vehicle, with consequent fuel savings. The direct drive twin motor system, on the other hand, is a patented system that makes it possible to distribute the force of the two rock cutter heads in different ways. The advantage is huge, since the power of the two drums is managed on the basis of the toughness of the material, and the vibrations transmitted to the excavator arm are absorbed.

Thus it is possible to cut various different kinds of material, from hard to less resistant, using the same drum cutter: simply choose between the low and the full set of picks to be used depending of the material to be cut.

So as the site manager of Pilotec confirms: “With the MB Crusher drum cutter, our customer saved money on costs and we finished the work in record time. So we are both very satisfied”.

Focus on MB-R

There are three models in the MB-R range: the smallest, the MB-R700, works with excavators from 6 to 13 tons; the MB-R800, the star of the Mexican construction site, weighs 1 ton and adapts to excavators from 10 to 22 tons; last but not least, the largest of the series, the MB-R900, for excavators from 19 to 35 tons.

GOSFORD COUNCIL GOES QUIET http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6815 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6815#respond Mon, 23 Oct 2017 05:59:58 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6815 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

Gosford Council’s maintenance team have revolutionised graffiti cleaning in the shire using steam cleaner that is a breakthrough in super quiet urban cleaning. The team wanted a unit that was efficient and could be used anytime, anywhere with minimal disturbance to the community or traffic flow.

The team decided on an Aussie Hydro-Hush trailer mounted industrial steam cleaner from Sydney based Australian Pump. The Aussie Hydrotek steam cleaner is called a Hydro-Hush as it offers real capability and the ability to operate at a noise level below 75dBA! That means it has a capability to operate even in built up areas with minimal disturbance to residents and businesses.

The Aussie Hydro-Hush steam cleaner delivers 4,000 psi pressure and steam to 130°C. This means the unit is able to deal with graffiti, chewing gum, and even drink spills or oil stain removal without the use of dangerous chemicals.

The high pressure and high temperature combination literally melts the contaminated material away leaving a clean surface. Removing graffiti is traditionally labour intensive and requires the use of harsh chemicals. Using high pressure steam is faster, safer and more cost effective.

“Our Aussie Hydro Hush machine has made the removal process much more efficient due to the extra pump pressure and hot water,” said Gosford Council’s Fleet Officer, David Bryant. “The extra water capacity of the trailer unit also saves time over our old unit as we’re not having to refill between jobs, he said.”

The Hydro-Hush unit is powered by a Kubota diesel engine. The super low noise level is achieved by fitting a Kubota factory approved low tone muffler and stainless steel body panels, insulated with high-density foam. Gosford’s maintenance team can now clean in noise sensitive areas and schedule work to avoid the high traffic times.

The heavy duty heating coil system uses a Hydrotek ‘Spiralast’® coil and diesel fired burner. Spiralast® coils have a high efficiency design are manufactured in the USA using a proprietary cold rolled process that makes them stronger. As an endorsement of the quality, the coils are backed with a lifetime warranty.

The Hydro-Hush is available in trailer mounted or skid mounted configuration with an integrated 1,000 litre water tank. That means the unit can be self-sufficient in delivering the job without the need for mains water pressure.

A 22” flat surface cleaner, designed for hot steam applications will handle up to 4,000 psi pressure and temperatures to 130°C. Slashing cleaning times by up to 70%, the attachment leaves a streak free finish whiling using less water.

The Hydro-Hush trailer is fitted with two stainless steel hose reels enabling the operator to work up to 30m from the machine. This means cleaning of amenities without vehicular access is not an issue.

Further information including a complete info pack on the Aussie Hydro-Hush systems is readily available from Australian Pump Industries.

Flawed and dangerous safety equipment puts lives at risk http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6220 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6220#respond Fri, 18 Nov 2016 01:32:40 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6220 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

Safety is paramount in mine sites with mining companies seeking alternative solutions to outdated, flawed and dangerous equipment to avoid injury for their staff and contractors.

This was the case for Downer when the immense pressure from a grease fitting dislodged a service persons safety glasses and hard hat resulting in injury to their right eye.

On a mine site, to keep the fleet running, service vehicles provide lubricants to all mobile equipment. One of the supplied lubricants, grease, can be supplied at very high pressure, up to 5000 psi.

A high-pressure injection injury often results in a serious medical emergency and can be common on mining sites, sometimes resulting in the amputation of limbs.

Downer saw this as a major risk for the company and as a result proactively asked Australian Diversified Engineering (ADE) to create a solution that would eliminate the hazard without adding any additional steps to the greasing task.

The solution had to be simple, cost effective and be fitted to the existing fleet of service equipment.

To design an effective solution, ADE researched all aspects of the task at hand including understanding the actions of the workers, the existing safety controls and the greasing hardware.

The research revealed the usual protective equipment, still currently being used on mine sites, was not protecting the workers and the standard process of removing the hose from a greasing nipple in the case of a blockage was intrinsically flawed and dangerous.

Eric Tomicek, http://www.texasgoldengirl.com/celexa/ Sales Manager ADE, said: “ADE undertook a thorough research of the protective equipment currently in use and found it to be inadequate offering very little protection to service persons”.

“Not only is this a big risk for service persons, but also highlighted a massive risk for mining companies who need to provide safety for their staff,” Mr Tomicek said.

The solution ADE provided is an easy-to-use device that removes the pressure from the hose, removing the hazard.

, Manufacturing Manager ADE, says the device design means it can be retrofitted to existing systems and is compatible with most industry standard components.

“We engineered a very easy to use grease pressure release device which is remote operated using a garage door style remote with green lamp indicating when the system is active,” Mr Kirk said.

Since completion, Downer has installed the Remote Grease Pressure Release System to their entire fleet of service vehicles.

The game-changing impact of the device was also recognised by the Queensland Mining Health and Safety Conference when the potentially life-saving invention was awarded Highly Commended at the conference’s Innovation Awards.

Downer’s commitment to providing Zero Harm in the mining industry is reflected in their decision to donate its royalties from the sales of each system to A Miner’s Legacy to help them continue to spread the word that there is nothing more important than going home unharmed to your loved ones at the end of you shift.

The Coleman trio has stood the test of time. http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6020 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6020#respond Fri, 08 Jul 2016 00:02:11 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=6020 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:

When Mike Coleman and John O’Toole met while travelling more than 30 years ago they never imagined that they, along with Mike’s brother Steve, would start a drainage business and own one of the longest-running Kobelco fleets in Australia.

The trio’s allegiance to the brand has been a strong part of their business history and continues now that they have accepted delivery of the first new Generation 10 Kobelco SK260LC-10 in Australia.

“We’ve been following Kobelco since they first arrived in the country and we bought our first Kobelco 907; they’ve always worked well for us. We recognised the effort and attention-to-detail that has gone into the new Generation 10 machines.
“Each year we replace one machine, so when it came time for this year’s update it was an easy decision,” Mike, says.

The majority of Coleman Drainage’s work is large-scale trenching, infrastructure and subdivision work.
“The nature of the jobs we do means we’re paid by the bucket rather than by the hour so the power and efficiency of the Kobelco SK260LC-10 fits the bill for us. It means we can get more work done in a shorter amount of time and move onto the next job making us more profitable,” Mike says.
Reliability is also a critical factor for the Coleman’s as they opt for a team approach to a job site.

“When we’re working a site, we mostly operate in teams. The larger machine will be doing the bulk of the work, and we’ll http://premier-pharmacy.com/product-category/gastrointestinal/ have a medium one behind it to do the finer pieces of work, then a smaller one behind it running around. So behind our larger machines is a crew of smaller ones. If that larger machine is not operating it costs us up to five times as much in lost productivity.
“We’ve been taking this approach for many years and using Kobelcos throughout those years. It’s a winning formula.”

The Coleman drainage fleet ranges from the SK20SR all the way up to the SK480LC-8. With such a large fleet, the team also values fuel efficiency. “It’s easy to lose sight of how much fuel your machines are using with such a large fleet but we’re confident that the Kobelcos operate efficiently whilst maintaining the power we need. The fleet is split between the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast offices in Queensland and looking to the future Mike will be maintaining the business as it stands.

The Coleman team is given strong support by the team at BrisVegas Machinery.

“After the team at BrisVegas became the Queensland Kobelco dealer about a year ago, we have built a solid relationship with them. We received great service when we bought the new Generation 10 Kobelco SK260LC-10 and we look forward to working with them in the future.

“Business is ticking along nicely for us, we’re happy with our volume at the moment and we have very happy clients so we’ll just maintain things the way they are,” Mike says.

KEEPING THE PEACE… AND PROTECTING HERITAGE STRUCTURES Council contractor finds a solution to noise and minimising vibrations transmitted by rock excavation. http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5520 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5520#respond Mon, 23 Nov 2015 21:39:18 +0000 http://www.australianearthmoving.com.au/?p=5520 Australian Earthmoving Magazine News:
When a Hunter Valley, NSW Council needed to excavate trenches for some new water pipes in a heritage listed neighbourhood, local contractor, Lovett’s Cessnock Earthmoving was called on for the task.

When rock was encountered where a trench had to be dug for the pipes, there was concern from neighbours about the intrusive noise from a rock hammer. Council had concerns as to the level of vibration that may affect the ageing and sensitive foundations of historically listed structures in close proximity to the works.

To address both the noise and vibration issues, a Rokla D 10 Rockwheel was attached to Lovett’s excavator and the trench dug to specification with minimum noise and without the excessive transmission of vibrations that would normally be associated with using a rock hammer.

“We do a lot of work for the local Council and for other earthworks associated with commercial development”, said Phil Lovett.

“When we suggested to Council that the Rockwheel may overcome resident’s objections and the potential environmental problems, they first appeared sceptical. However when they saw the speed and quality with which the work was completed, they agreed it was a perfect solution.

“The work we carry out throughout the local area means we have to maintain an inventory of the most appropriate equipment and attachments to tackle just about any site preparation task. The addition of the Rockwheel to our earthworks tools means we have the capability to carry out similar work efficiently and in the shortest time”, Phil added.

Semco’s Graham Murphy said, “The Rockwheel range provides efficient rock removal and profiling solutions that include the world’s smallest twin header rock grinder that can run on a 1.5 tonne hydraulic excavator through to the powerful G125 model (120 t Class HEX’s) with a maximum output of 440kW.

“This German-made equipment is attractive to contractors because it offers the latest in design technology…lighter, more powerful, more versatile units that can work under water un-modified and require no Casedrain system.

“Our evaluation of these innovative, extremely powerful cutting units has shown them to be robust, reliable and versatile. Rockwheel cutting units are equipped with high-torque hydraulic engines and are designed so that the picks, which are mounted on the drums at an optimal angle, can penetrate the material with maximum power.

The design and power components of the low-vibration Rockwheel cutting units are perfectly adjusted, ensuring that the tungsten carbide-tipped picks create rock chips rapidly and with reduced bounce. And the cutting heads rotate at a low speed yet with massive torque that that can handle up to 110 mpa compressive strength materials and ensures a clean profile,” Murphy added.
